Available Programs
We've barely started and already have a fine start on important programs:
- classes in bicycle maintenance and repair; bicycle safety presentations and training (outreach to K-12 schools, youth organizations, businesses, other public and private organizations)
- providing training and mentoring of youth in bicycle safety, etiquette, and maintenance
- partnership with Boys and Girls Clubs of Central Iowa cycling program to share access to shop and equipment
- outreach clinics to YMCA adult residents and Homes of Oakridge youth and families to tune up bicycles and provide information and education about bicycle maintenance and safe riding
- partnership with Iowa Bureau of Refugee Services to provide bicycles for international refugees in Des Moines to use for transportation
- The Collective organized Bike Iowa Month for the Des Moines area (May 2010)
- The Collective is raising funds to hire a program director to do outreach and provide programs for businesses, schools, churches, local/county/state government, and civic organizations
Below are some pictures from a program we held at Homes of Oakridge to prepare bikes for youth who needed dependable bikes. Enjoy
